About the Event
When: June 12, 9am - checkin begins
Race starts at 10:00am sharp
Shuttles will be available to the start.
Where: Starts at the Visitor's Center on Highway 65 and Forest Route 121 (near the top). Ride route 121 east, continuing past Old Grand Mesa Road (following Lakeshore Drive) until route 125 and head south along Surface Creek Road. Finish Line is at the parking lot before exiting the national forest boundary
Description: This a quick and beautiful jaunt on the dirt roads of Grand Mesa descending over 1500ft down Surface Creek Road
Equipment Restrictions: Rigid-framed bikes only: BYOB or use one of our Certified, Race-Ready bikes (First come First served on in house bikes, limited loaner supply available)
Safety Equipment: Bike Helmet (certified mountain bike helmet recommended), pads and gloves recommended.
Course conditions: Moderate Climbing for the first 5 miles, relatively flat, until Surface Creek Road with fast descents and sweeping curves, lots of washboards, large bumps (some will launch your bike into the air), and rocks.
Equipment Disadvantages: Front shocks - -0:60 penalty Rear Shocks - -1:20 penalty (2:20 penalty for full suspension mtn bike)
Age Restrictions: none
Age Groups: Except for riders under 10 years, there are separate categories for boys/girls, men, and women.
Old enough to ride through12 years 13 years - 19 years
20 years – 35 years
36 years – 49 years
50 years and older
Prizes: The winner of each category wins a jackpot based on the number of participants; the more the merrier!
