This is a pre-production Trek road bike from 1980. It is indeed a barn find as the only thing it needed was a lot of pigeon droppings cleaned off. Up until 1980, Trek was still a relatively humble brand, still hand-building their bicycle frames in a red barn (carpet warehouse) in Waterloo, Wisconsin. 1980 was actually the year they stepped it up and built a factory producing complete bikes! This is one of their older frames, likely actually made in 1979 or early 1980. Trek did not start producing complete bikes from that facility until 1981.
