We put a motor on this trike... bad idea... it blew a tire at 35mph, the tube came out, wrapped around the axle and flipped the bike, seriously injuring the rider.

About Us

Our evolution:

Silent started in 2009 in Vista, California by Marty Ulrich in the industrial park hanging out with the likes of Andrew Brussard and Gene Bird. The focus back then was manufacturing. People often ask how I came up with the name Silent. It began with a quest to find a chainring for my new fixed gear bike. Appalled by the limited selection and insane prices from other companies, I found it was easier and cheaper to make parts than to buy them - after all, I was a metal fabricator by trade and we had plenty of "drop" sheet metal laying around from other jobs. So I designed a chainring based on my own measurements and math, based on a SRAM S1 chain. It fit like a glove. I then beveled and polished the teeth just because I could. The result was a dead-silent chainring. While riding down a grade with the wind at my back, I was in some kind of vortex. All I could hear was the sound of the tires effortlessly rolling down the pavement - no wind, no chain noise. This bike had been Silenced! The rest is history.

Silent moved to Colorado in 2011 and went on a little hiatus until 2020 when we opened our first brick n mortar shop in Cedaredge. Here we established a foundation for a cycling community and began hosting bike games each summer including our famous Cedaredge Skate Park Jam, which is now our legacy. We also brought back “klunking,” which is truly fantastic on the Grand Mesa!!

In that time, Marty has overhauled, tuned up, and built 1000s of bikes. He also specializes in crafting wheels for custom bike builds and is known to build a fresh wheel from start to finish in under an hour! Every bike that bears the emblem “This bike has been Silenced” is a real treasure and will bring smiles for miles to come!! Whether you want thirty speeds, five, or just one, he has a knack for knowing exactly what you’re looking for in a bike.

Our shop moved twice from our small Cedaredge location as it grew, but the overhead was just too much and so October 31, 2025 was our last day in Delta, Colorado. The shop will remain and emerge in another location in the near future. Follow us on facebook for more updates!
