About the Event
We will take a shuttle from the Appleshed parking lot in Cedaredge at 12pm up to the top of the mountain and begin at Grand Mesa Lodge. You may arrange your own ride to the Lodge as well and we will ensure you get a ride back to your vehicle after the ride. The ride starts at 2pm. This will allow some beer and pizza time and for others to show up late. The first stage begins around Island Lake to Baron Lake and then over to Alexander Lake before we descend Old Grand Mesa Road - the second stage. Old Grand Mesa Road crosses Hwy 65 and 2225 Road (Sweet Baby Jesus Head Rock Road) begins, which is the third, most technical, and bumpiest stage. We reach hwy 65 further down the mtn and the 4th and final stage to town is all paved, but you'll likely welcome a smooth road by this time. No rider is left behind; we will wait for all riders at the end of each stage. Points are awarded to the first rider to finish each stage.Â
1. Stage 1 - Island Lake - 10 points
2. Stage 2 - Old Grand Mesa Road - 20 points
3. Stage 3 - Sweet Baby Jesus Head Rock Road - 30 points
4. Stage 4 - Smooth Sailing to Cedaredge - 5 points
The racer with the most points wins a $200 gift certificate from Silent Country Cycle & Ski!! This event is supported entirely by riders! We have no sponsors, well except the host Silent...Â
Race Tech Requirements:
1. Single speed bike
2. Equipped with only a rear coaster brake (front caliper brakes allowed - no disc brakes or hydraulic brakes)
3. Rigid frame
4. Mtn bike (or better) helmet (gloves, boots, pads also recommended)
5. Obviously, you gotta sign a waiver of liability - klunking is dangerous fun. We are poor and also hooligans. You won't get much out of us in a lawsuit anyway.Â
$10 race fee for racers - riders can go for free and take whatever bike (helmets still required)
